CHRONICLE OF EPISCOPAL CONSECRATION OF BISHOP. Paola Magnani

There were no reserved seats in Lodi, as there was no room for privileged Pavia: priests, religious and lay people are confused in one throb of devotion to the new Bishop of Pavia that gives Lodi.

IDEAS IN SHELF
Tino Cobianchi
The weeks before Christmas are characterized by the frenetic and sometimes frantic rush and is perhaps the period in which such conduct, sociologists and economists define consumerism, occurs with greater intensity. For the publishing company EMI has released a book, Following Christ in a consumer society, the reading of which may be useful to better understand this phenomenon and having, at the same time, a Christian view. John F. Kavanaugh offers, through a comprehensive analysis of American society easily traceable to the Italian, the insights that can stimulate a lifestyle in opposition to the consumerist mentality that seeks, with its rites and its models, to impose their beliefs and make it "the fundamental reality and truth." The Jesuit priest warns against the lure of consumerism urging, to counteract the habits, to follow Jesus without fear For this purpose, the author submits the Gospel of Christ and the gospel of consumerism as a comparison which shows how the Word of God is only able to "tell us who we are and the reality of our life," showing "the truth about ourselves" and helping "to truly realized how individuals, families and society." Kavanaugh insists on the importance of finding the meaning of the essence of Christianity and "doing life choices, take action, take the path of true human fulfillment. " "Not only that - says the Jesuit - are called to resist the mental conditioning of the consumer society", but above all we are called to follow Christ because "he has to reveal who we really are" and "non-expendable items defined by the lifeless idols that we have created, but irreplaceable people, created in the image of a God who has raised to the Community provided that they can take part in his life. " The message of the book becomes an invitation to imitate the life of Jesus, which alone can give meaning and purpose to our because "a life of faith, of hope and love takes place in contradiction with the values \u200b\u200bof the consumerist model of our culture.
